Chessex Announces Revamped Borealis Dice Lineup

Chessex Announces Revamped Borealis Dice Lineup

On Wednesday, October 21, Chessex publicly announced they were retiring all of their existing Chessex Borealis Dice in favor of a revamped lineup of Borealis Dice. The revamped series will contain their proprietary Luminary glitter. Luminary is the trademarked name for their exclusive glow-in-the-dark glitter the company launched in 2019.

What the announcement means going forward

Chessex will sell all of their current inventory of Borealis dice. However, once they are gone, they will be gone for good. On November 20th, the company will make available the new sets which will completely replace their existing sets.

Although the new sets will have new SKU numbers, they will essentially retain the same names as the current sets. For example, the new Borealis Royal Purple set will look almost identical to the Royal Purple set being retired. The difference will only be noticeable when you turn off the lights. With the lights off, the Luminary glitter in the dice will begin to shine.

Not the first time the line has been completely revamped

A few years ago, the Borealis series went through a forced revamp because the pigment used in the Borealis glitter was made unavailable. This was because the pigment began to be used in the Euro currency and the company that supplied the pigment could no longer provide it to Chessex. The older style Borealis dice, in our opinion, were superior in design to the current lineup. However, this Luminary-infused Borealis release is sure to reignite interest in Chessex's Borealis series of dice.
